Wlan on Zotac Ztop-Box with Ubuntu

Tested with Trisquel (Ubuntu Precious Pangolin):

A short tutorial to install wifi drivers on an Zotac Ztop-Box on Ubuntu/Trisquel:

  1. Check your wifi chipset

    # lspci
    […]
    03:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. Device 3290
    […]

  2. Now you know that your chipset is the Ralink 3290, so you can use look here to find some additional information.
  3. Use the great linked tutorial from praseodym in the ubuntuusers.de-Forum to install the driver:

32bit and 64bit:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) linux-headers-generic build-essential

32bit and PAE-Kernel:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) linux-headers-generic-pae build-essential

Install driver:

wget http://media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/forum/attachments/18/16/5561332-angepasster_DPO_RT3290_LinuxSTA_V2600_20120508.tar.gz
tar xvf 5561332-angepasster_DPO_RT3290_LinuxSTA_V2600_20120508.tar.gz
cd DPO_RT3290_LinuxSTA_V2600_20120508/
sudo make
sudo make install
sudo cp DPO_RT3290_LinuxSTA_V2600_20120508/common/rt3290.bin /lib/firmware

Blacklist rt2800pci driver:

echo "blacklist rt2800pci" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Reboot your system and connect to wifi. Thanks to praseodym for this!
